Submission Guidelines
New Mexico Review publishes twice a year, May and December. Our reading periods are September 15 - October 15 and February 15 -April 1.
If you wish to submit a poem in a language other than English, please submit an English translation along with it.
The New Mexico Review accepts previously unpublished work in Fiction (500-1500 words), Non-Fiction (500-1500 words), Poetry (2-4 poems), and artwork (for photography 1-3 high-resolution jpg. or png. files only). Submissions should be saved in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) with your name stated in the file. Prose submissions should be double-spaced. Please use standard type-face and font size (12 pt). In the subject line, please include the category of submission, followed by your name, (POETRY/ Jon Snow). Please include a third-person, 50-word bio with your submission.
We gladly accept simultaneous submissions. Please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere and withdraw your submission.
We also ask that if you have been a previous contributor, please wait at least two issues before resubmitting. Individuals affiliated with New Mexico Highlands University (students, staff, and/or faculty) should not submit until they have been unaffiliated for a full five years.
Should your work be accepted for publication, it may be lightly edited to correct minor spelling/punctuation errors. Contributors will be notified of significant changes in advance of publication.
Upon acceptance, you are granting the New Mexico Review First North American Serial Rights to publish this work in our upcoming issue. Copyright reverts to the contributor after publication. If your work is subsequently reprinted elsewhere, please acknowledge the New Mexico Review as the site of first publication.
